Engraving Ceramic Tiles for Miami University
We were originally contacted in August 2011, by Tri-State Tile to quote on engraving inscriptions on Porcelain Tile, to be installed on site at Miami University’s Armstrong Center.
This piece consists of a variety of engraved tiles / rotunda stones laid out in a circle along the Armstrong Center’s floor. The initial batch of tiles were engraved at our shop, with subsequent engravings done over the years on-site, on the in-place tiles.
For the initial batch, we engraved around 75 large tiles, and 200 small tiles at our location.
Every year since 2013, twice a year we go on-site to engrave and sand blast any new tiles. Miami University contracts us to perform the work, which is typically done in January and August.
As of 2022, we’ve engraved over 125 large tiles and over 300 small tiles. We’re currently working on engraving the 5th circle of large tiles.
We always look forward every year to working with Miami University. If you’re ever on campus, stop by Miami University’s Armstrong Center and take a look at this piece!
Below are a few photos showing the on-location engraving process, details of the engravings, and a few technical drawings showing the engraving plans.
